COLLEGE RADIO is an online radio started at the University of the West Indies by a set of students who saw the need for a more formal and dedicated online radio experience (http://www.collegeradioja.com). We also aimed at showcasing the untapped talent that is available in our tertiary institutions. College Radio began transmission in February 2010 focusing on the listening needs of the young and the young at heart. We strive to be “Sophisticated, Dynamic & Entertaining” in all we do as our slogan states. The radio is managed and operated by university students from UWI (University of the West Indies) Mona and Utech (University of Technology) and is being expanded to accommodate other tertiary institutions both locally and internationally. Currently we have DJs from UWI and Utech with their choices of study covering a very wide range.
College Radio is dedicated to airing alternative viewpoints that often differ from the broadcasts found on many commercial stations. Our creative and educational endeavors will be guided by honesty, balance and sensitivity. The station is committed to soliciting and providing access in a non- discriminatory, progressive fashion to those traditionally underrepresented in the media. This includes, but is not limited to, women, cultural, ethnic and racial minorities, seniors, youth, children and the disabled. The College Radio staff shall at all times strive for completeness in news coverage.
The station strives conscientiously for unbiased and fair reporting on all events and topics. College Radio is dedicated to producing the best radio our various personnel and facilities will permit, serving university students and our larger listening audience with news, public affairs, music, entertainment and spoken word programming as well as broadcasts and information about various campus events and issues.
